What happened
During a scheduled cargo operation transporting a shipment of fish to Mama, an aircraft entered its final descent phase. While descending to an altitude of approximately 1,500 meters, the flight crew was granted authorization to execute a visual approach. However, during this maneuver, the plane struck treetops and crashed within a forested region situated roughly 18 km north of the airport.
The accident resulted in eight fatalities, with no survivors reported among the crew members. At the time of the impact, the local environment was characterized by challenging meteorological conditions, including low cloud ceilings, active snowfall, turbulence, and icing.
Findings
Investigations into the crash identified that the visibility available to the crew was inadequate for the descent being performed. It was concluded that the pilot descended to a dangerously low altitude without maintaining necessary visual contact with terrain obstacles. Additionally, the performance of air traffic control ground assistance was noted as an inefficient factor contributing to the sequence of events.
