What happened
During an approach to Tegucigalpa-Toncontin Airport, an aircraft encountered adverse weather conditions. While navigating the descent, the crew did not identify that the plane had descended to an insufficient altitude. Consequently, the aircraft collided with the southern slope of Cerro de Hula, a peak reaching 1,600 meters, situated approximately 14 km from the threshold of runway 01.
The impact resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft. There were three fatalities among the crew members on board.
Findings
Investigations into the accident indicate that the primary factor was the crew's failure to maintain the required altitude while operating in poor visibility and difficult weather conditions.
