On May 8, 2021, a Mi-2 helicopter, registration RA-15715, was conducting scheduled flights in the Kamchatka Territory, Russia. Following an initial flight from the Kolpakova outpost to the Izluchina outpost, the pilot-in-command prepared for a second flight. The planned route for this subsequent mission was from the Izluchina outpost to the Ostrovnaya outpost and back to Izluchina.
Pre-flight preparations for the aircraft, RA-15715, included refueling with 450 liters of TS-1 aviation fuel, bringing the total fuel on board to 600 liters. The aircraft was loaded with approximately 200 kg of cargo, including three propane gas cylinders. The takeoff weight was approximately 3420 kg, which was within the maximum takeoff weight limits of 3700 kg.
Due to the lack of medical support at the intended landing site, the pilot-in-command proceeded without a pre-flight medical examination. The flight was authorized to use Instrument Flight Procedures (IFP) through Class C and Class G airspace.
During the flight, weather conditions deteriorated below the requirements for visual flight rules (VFR). While performing a turn, the aircraft lost altitude control and collided with trees and the ground. The accident resulted in two fatalities.
