What happened
During a flight from Hurghada to Warsaw, the flight crew encountered significant technical difficulties while cruising over Turkish airspace. The crew notified Air Traffic Control regarding the onset of electrical and hydraulic malfunctions. In response to these complications, the aircraft was granted permission to perform an emergency diversion to Istanbul-Atatürk Airport.
Upon arriving at the airport, the aircraft attempted an emergency landing. However, following the touchdown, the aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length. The aircraft subsequently overran the runway and came to a stop in the vicinity of the ILS antenna. During the excursion, the two main landing gears collapsed. Despite the severity of the incident, all 163 occupants were able to evacuate the aircraft without injury. The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
Findings
- The crew reported active malfunctions involving the aircraft's hydraulic and electrical systems prior to landing.
- The runway excursion was characterized by an inability to stop the aircraft within the remaining runway distance following touchdown.
