What happened
On a flight departing from Montreal-Saint-Hubert Airport, a twin-engine aircraft was en route to Le Havre-aux-Maisons in the Magdalen Islands. The flight was scheduled for a duration of approximately two hours. During the arrival phase, the aircraft encountered challenging weather conditions, characterized by rain, wind gusts reaching 30 knots, and a low cloud ceiling with visibility limited to two miles.
As the aircraft was performing its final approach to Runway 07, it was positioned roughly 1.4 nautical miles west-southwest of the airfield. During this maneuver, the flight path drifted south of the intended approach. At approximately 12:30 ADT, the aircraft experienced a loss of control and impacted the ground while maintaining a near-level attitude. The impact caused the total destruction of the aircraft. There were seven fatalities among the occupants, including the pilot and six passengers.
Findings
Investigation details indicate that the aircraft deviated from the approach path during the final stages of the flight. The presence of marginal weather conditions, including significant wind gusts and reduced visibility, coincided with the loss of control and subsequent impact.
