On 18 July 2024, a Cham Wing Airbus A320-231 (YK-BAE) experienced a nose wheel steering failure after landing on Runway 08L at Muscat International Airport, causing a veer to the left. The crew reset the steering and vacated the runway without assistance.

History of the Flight

On 18 July 2024 at 19:32 UTC, Cham Wing flight SAW781, an Airbus A320-231 registered YK-BAE, departed from Damascus International Airport (OSDI) in Syria for Muscat International Airport (OOMS) in Oman. The aircraft touched down on Runway 08L at 22:40 UTC. According to the flight crew, the landing and initial deceleration were smooth. However, during the deceleration phase, the Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor (ECAM) displayed faults associated with the Landing Gear Control and Interface Unit (LGCIU) 1 and the Nose Wheel Steering (NWS). The aircraft subsequently veered leftward from the runway centerline.

The aircraft came to a stop at the left edge of Runway 08L. The crew performed a reset of the nose wheel steering system and regained control, enabling them to vacate the runway without external assistance.

Post-Landing Actions

After the aircraft cleared the runway, Oman Airports Operations personnel inspected the runway and found tire markings between taxiways Y5 and Y6. No foreign object debris was detected. At the parking stand, a maintenance engineer attended the aircraft.
