What happened
A ferry flight traveling from Budapest-Ferihegy toward Warsaw crashed while navigating difficult weather conditions. During the transit, the crew encountered significant icing and poor visibility. In response to these environmental challenges, the pilot received clearance to abort the mission and return to Budapest, with instructions to remain at or above an altitude of 4,000 feet.
Shortly after receiving these instructions, the single-engine airplane experienced a rapid loss of altitude. The aircraft struck the slope of a hill in the vicinity of Pilisszentlélek. There were two fatalities resulting from the impact.
Findings
Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor was the excessive accumulation of ice on the wings, fuselage, and tail surfaces. This buildup led to a loss of aerodynamic control during the flight.
