An aircraft crashed into a forest near Aukštelkai, Lithuania, resulting in the deaths of the pilot and two passengers during an unapproved flight.

What happened

Following the completion of crop-spraying tasks for a state farm located in the vicinity of Radviliškis, an aircraft departed from Šeduva on an unsanctioned mission. The flight included the pilot and two passengers who were not authorized to be on board. While flying at a low altitude, the pilot executed an unapproved maneuver which led to a critical loss of airspeed.

As the aircraft lost momentum, the pilot was unable to maintain control, causing the plane to strike the Možaicai forest. The impact occurred approximately 25 km east of Šiauliai, near the settlement of Aukštelkai. Following the crash, the wreckage caught fire and was destroyed. There were three fatalities in total, consisting of the pilot and both passengers.

Findings

Investigations into the accident determined that the primary factor was the pilot's intoxication, which contributed to the execution of dangerous maneuvers at low altitude. The lack of authorization for both the flight path and the passengers further characterized the nature of the incident.

Probable cause

The pilot performed hazardous maneuvers while under the influence of alcohol, leading to a loss of control.
