What happened
On the flight path from Santa Elena de Uairén toward Urimán, the crew experienced a sudden failure of the engine. This mechanical issue necessitated an immediate emergency descent to find a suitable landing site. The crew identified a prairie situated approximately 42 km southeast of Urimán Airport as a potential location for the landing.
During the landing sequence, the aircraft type moved across the terrain for several dozen meters before striking trees. The impact caused the plane to come to a halt within a heavily wooded section. While the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, there were zero fatalities and zero injuries reported among the crew. Following the crash, the two pilots remained at the site for two days before being successfully rescued by a helicopter crew.
Findings
- The primary factor leading to the emergency landing was an engine failure during the en route phase of flight.
