What happened
On July 6, 2015, a Kodiak-100, registration N642RM, was involved in an accident during a ferry flight operation. The aircraft had previously arrived at Pskov Airport on July 3 after departing from Riga, Latvia, as part of a transit from the United States to a landing site near Ryazan. Following the completion of customs and border formalities, the crew prepared to resume the ferry mission.
At approximately 13:15, the pilot and first officer initiated takeoff from Pskov Airport. During the initial climb phase, while executing a left turn, the aircraft encountered engine trouble. Unable to restart the engine during the flight, the crew transitioned the aircraft into a glide. As part of the emergency procedure, the crew shut off the fuel supply and de-energized the aircraft's systems prior to impact.
At 13:18, the aircraft performed a forced landing in a marshy area characterized by bushes and scattered trees. While the aircraft sustained significant structural damage, no fire occurred during the flight or upon ground contact. The first officer notified air traffic control of the emergency at 13:21. Although medical assistance was offered by the local Pskov First-Aid Station, the crew declined treatment as there were no injuries reported.
Findings
Investigations into the event noted that the pilot and first officer failed to undergo required preflight medical examinations, despite the availability of medical services at the aerodrome. This omission was noted as a violation of established flight regulations.
