What happened
A twin-engine airplane was performing a scheduled flight from Johannesburg-Rand Airport toward Riversdale when it encountered terrain near the Robinson Pass area. During the transit, the aircraft collided with the northern face of Mt Fouriesberg, situated approximately 10 km west of Robinson Pass in the Oudtshoorn region.
The flight was transporting four personnel belonging to the South African Air Defence School at the time of the accident. The impact resulted in four fatalities, with no survivors reported from the wreckage.
Findings
The investigation into the crash indicates that the aircraft struck the north face of the mountain during its en route phase of flight.
