What happened
On the night of February 12, 2005, a Twin Commander 685 aircraft, operating under the Mexican registration XB-PRS, crashed into a residential neighborhood in the State of Mexico. The flight, which was a domestic business operation, departed from Cancun, Quintana Roo, at approximately 19:30 CST with the intention of landing at Toluca International Airport.
During the approach phase of the flight, the aircraft experienced a loss of control. The plane struck the ground near the airport, impacting a residential zone. The collision resulted in the destruction of one home and caused damage to two additional residences. While the impact caused significant damage to the structures, no individuals on the ground sustained injuries.
Findings
At the time of the accident, the flight was operating under night visual meteorological conditions. The crash resulted in three fatalities, including two passengers, while the pilot sustained serious injuries. The aircraft, a 1973 model, was destroyed upon impact.
