What happened
During a nighttime flight destined for Zahedan, a twin-engine aircraft struck a mountain slope in the Sabzpushan Heights, situated north of the destination airport. The flight was carrying a total of seven people, consisting of a crew of three—including two pilots and one flight attendant—and four passengers. Among the passengers was a high-ranking police official traveling to the area to investigate a prior incident involving the deaths of four officers.
As the aircraft approached its destination under the cover of darkness, the flight crew did not maintain sufficient altitude, leading to the impact with the terrain. Search teams located the wreckage the morning after the accident. There were seven fatalities and no survivors.
Findings
Following the investigation, Iranian authorities identified several contributing factors to the crash. The primary cause was attributed to the pilot's lack of familiarity with the local geography, compounded by the challenges of navigating in darkness and existing technical issues with the aircraft.
