What happened
A positioning flight traveling from Amman-Marka Airport to Alexandria, Egypt, experienced a runway excursion during its final approach. While the crew was executing the landing sequence, the aircraft maintained an altitude above the established glide path. Despite this deviation, the captain elected to proceed with the landing attempt.
During the final segment of the approach, the speed brakes were retracted. This action caused the aircraft to float along the runway surface, resulting in the touchdown occurring significantly further down the runway than intended. Due to the insufficient remaining runway length, the aircraft was unable to decelerate in time, leading to an overrun.
Findings
- The aircraft landed too far down the runway following a period of floating.
- The deactivation of speed brakes during the final approach segment contributed to the loss of control over the landing distance.
- The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
- There were zero fatalities and zero injuries among the three crew members on board.
