What happened
On the morning of the incident, a twin engine aircraft departed from Recife-Guararapes Airport at 06:09 local time, bound for Natal. The flight was operated with a crew consisting of one pilot and one passenger, and the cargo included bags containing various bank documents.
As the aircraft was performing its approach to runway 16L at Natal-Augusto Severo Airport, the left engine experienced a failure. This was followed shortly thereafter by a failure of the right engine while the aircraft was at an altitude of approximately 600 feet. Realizing that the remaining power was insufficient to complete the approach to the runway, the pilot initiated an emergency descent into an open field.
Upon contacting the ground, the aircraft's landing gear collapsed. The plane slid approximately 200 meters through the terrain before coming to a stop in a muddy area. While the two occupants sustained only minor injuries, the aircraft was determined to be a total loss due to the extent of the damage.
Findings
- The sequence of events was initiated by a consecutive failure of both engines during the final approach phase.
