Aircraft overrun at Enshi Airport

No fatalities • Enshi, China • Landing (descent or approach)

An aircraft failed to stop after landing at Enshi Airport, resulting in an excursion from the runway and significant damage to the airframe.

What happened

Following its arrival at Enshi Airport, the aircraft experienced issues maintaining deceleration within the available runway length. As the plane approached the end of the paved surface, it was unable to come to a complete stop before reaching the threshold, leading to an overrun. The aircraft eventually came to a halt several dozen meters past the runway boundary.

Despite the impact and the extent of the excursion, all 25 occupants on board were able to evacuate the aircraft without sustaining any injuries. However, the structural damage sustained during the event was severe enough that the aircraft was declared a total loss.

Findings

  • The primary factor in the incident was the inability to stop within the remaining runway distance after touchdown.

Probable cause

The aircraft failed to decelerate sufficiently to remain on the runway during the landing roll.
