Engine failure during approach to Dodoma Airport

No fatalities • Dodoma, Tanzania • Landing (descent or approach)

An aircraft experienced a dual engine failure while approaching Dodoma Airport, resulting in an emergency landing in a nearby field.

What happened

During the final approach phase to Dodoma Airport, the aircraft experienced a simultaneous loss of power in both engines. In response to the dual engine failure, the pilot executed an emergency descent into a cornfield situated in the vicinity of the Kizota district.

As the aircraft contacted the ground, the nose landing gear collapsed. The impact caused the plane to slide for several dozen meters across the terrain before the movement ceased. While the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, there were no fatalities. All 13 occupants on board were able to evacuate the wreckage and sustained only minor injuries.

Findings

  • The primary factor in the incident was the simultaneous failure of both engines during the approach to the airfield.

Probable cause

The simultaneous failure of both engines during the approach phase led to the emergency landing.
