What happened
On April 29, 2017, at approximately 16:20 local time, a Bücker Bü 131 APM, registration HB-UVF, was performing a private flight under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) at Hausen am Albis (LSZN). The flight originated and was intended to terminate at the same airfield. Following a successful landing, the aircraft began its landing roll. During this phase, the aircraft experienced a slight deviation from its path. In an attempt to correct the direction, the pilot applied the brakes, which triggered a nose-over event. The aircraft flipped forward, coming to rest on its back, facing the opposite direction of the runway.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the sequence of events during the landing roll and the pilot's corrective actions. Investigators examined the aircraft's state following the impact and the mechanical response of the braking system. The investigation established that while the initial landing was completed correctly, the subsequent application of the brakes during a directional correction led to the loss of control.
Findings
- The primary cause of the accident was the application of the brakes while attempting to correct a directional deviation during the landing roll.
- The aircraft sustained heavy damage, specifically involving a broken fuselage and deformed wing structures.
- There were no injuries to the two occupants or any third parties involved in the incident.
