What happened
On February 26, 2022, at approximately 01:10 UTC, a Pilatus PC6/B2H4, registered as PK-SNB, was performing a commercial flight in Indonesia. The aircraft departed from Douw Atuture Airport (WABI) in Nabire and was proceeding to Bayabiru Airstrip in the Paniai region of Papua.
During the landing phase on Runway 10 at Bayabitu Airstrip, the aircraft experienced a loss of directional control. As the pilot was executing the landing roll, the aircraft veered toward the left side of the runway. This excursion resulted in the aircraft impacting higher ground adjacent to the airstrip. While the aircraft sustained serious damage, there were no injuries reported among the pilot or the five passengers on board.
The investigation
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (SUST) notified the public of the incident, noting that the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) of Indonesia had opened an official investigation into the event. Initial assessments focused on the aircraft's movement during the landing roll and the subsequent impact with the terrain.
