What happened
On September 7, 1965, a Bücker 131 Jungmann, registered as HB-URD, was performing an external landing at the Beromünster airfield in the canton of Lucerne. During the landing roll following the touchdown, the aircraft experienced a sudden deceleration caused by the unintended application of the brakes. This sudden braking resulted in the wheels locking, which subsequently caused the aircraft to pitch forward onto its nose. The impact resulted in various damages to the airframe.
The investigation
Investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the landing roll at Beromünster. The inquiry focused on the mechanical and operational sequence that led to the loss of control during the deceleration phase. The investigation established that the primary mechanism of the accident was the sudden immobilization of the landing gear due to braking action.
