What happened
During the approach phase to Arkhangelsk-Talagi, the flight crew identified a mechanical malfunction involving the landing gear. Despite performing multiple manual procedures to deploy the gear, the system failed to function correctly. Ultimately, the crew was unable to extend the left side, leaving only the right main gear deployed from its wheel well.
Faced with this configuration, the captain elected to proceed with the landing. Upon making contact with the runway, the aircraft began to slide along the surface before losing directional control. The plane veered off the paved surface and eventually came to a stop in a nearby grassy field. While the aircraft sustained damage beyond repair, there were no injuries among the 62 occupants on board.
Findings
- The primary issue was a technical failure preventing the full deployment of the landing gear.
- The landing gear remained stuck in the wheel well, with only the right main gear successfully extended.
