What happened
On the afternoon of the incident, a Daghestan Airlines flight, designated DAG372, departed from Moscow-Vnukovo Airport with the intention of traveling to Makhatchala. Approximately fourteen minutes into the flight, while the aircraft was maintaining an altitude of 9,000 meters, the crew reported a malfunction involving the failure of both the first and third engines. This occurred roughly 80 kilometers south of Moscow.
Following the engine failures, air traffic control authorized the flight to divert and return to Moscow-Domodedovo Airport. During the final approach, the aircraft descended through the cloud layer to an altitude of 500 feet. However, the aircraft was not correctly positioned along the runway centerline. Upon touchdown, the plane struck the ground heavily to the right of runway 32R. The momentum caused the aircraft to veer out of control, eventually striking an earth mound and dense vegetation. The impact was severe enough to cause the fuselage to break into two separate sections.
As a result of the accident, there were two fatalities and 78 injuries among the people on board.
