What happened
During a flight departing from Tynda Airport, the aircraft was cruising at an altitude of 5,700 metres when the crew identified a malfunction involving the central engine (engine n°2). Specifically, the turbine was experiencing excessive temperatures. In response to this technical issue, the captain performed an engine shutdown procedure for the second engine.
While attempting to reach Aldan Airport, the aircraft entered a descent characterized by a nose-down attitude. The aircraft struck the ground approximately 90 metres before the runway threshold, experiencing a positive acceleration of 4 g upon impact. The force of the collision caused the nose landing gear to collapse. Following the initial impact, the aircraft bounced multiple times and slid for a distance of 800 metres before finally stopping on the runway.
Findings
- The primary mechanical issue was an excessive turbine temperature in the central engine.
- All 11 occupants managed to evacuate the aircraft without injury.
- The aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss.
