Aircraft overrun during aborted takeoff

No fatalities • Urganch, Uzbekistan • Takeoff (climb)

An aircraft experienced an engine power loss during its takeoff roll, leading to an overrun and significant damage to the airframe.

What happened

While performing the takeoff roll on runway 13/31, the flight crew identified a reduction in power coming from the left engine. In response to this mechanical issue, the decision was made to abort the takeoff procedure. However, the aircraft was unable to decelerate sufficiently within the available runway length, resulting in an overrun of the paved surface.

As the aircraft exited the runway, the right main landing gear was lost. The movement continued for several dozen meters before the aircraft finally came to a stop. Although the aircraft sustained damage that rendered it a total loss, there were no injuries reported among the occupants. All individuals on board successfully evacuated the aircraft without harm.

Findings

  • The primary factor leading to the runway excursion was a loss of power in the left engine during the initial takeoff phase.

Probable cause

A loss of power in the left engine during the takeoff roll prevented the aircraft from stopping within the runway limits.
