The seaplane departed North Island-Halsey Field NAS on a flight to Kaneohe Bay NAS, Hawaii, with two accompanying planes. En route, weather conditions deteriorated and the crew became separated from the rest of the group. A last radio communication at 0200LT reported the airplane was reported at 7000 feet on instruments, reducing altitude.
