While flying over Iraq, the airplane collided with a second USAF Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker registered 63-8017. Following the midair collision, 63-8017 lost the top of its tail and its crew was able to return to Tel Aviv-Ben Gurion Airport for an emergency landing. Out of control, 62-3556 crashed in Western Iraq and was destroyed.
