The investigation concluded that the probable cause was the failure of the right main landing gear shimmy dampers. Boeing analysis identified that improper maintenance practices, specifically the incorrect installation or servicing of these dampers, rendered them ineffective. This mechanical failure allowed excessive oscillation during the high-speed rollout, leading to structural overload and the subsequent separation of the right main landing gear assembly from the aircraft.
