On January 22, 1952, American Airlines Flight 6780, a Convair 240 (N-94229), crashed into the city of Elizabeth, New Jersey, at approximately 1544. All 20 passengers and three crew members were killed, and the aircraft was destroyed by impact and ensuing fire. Seven people in buildings on the ground were fatally injured.
