BEFORE TAKING OFF, THE PLT HAD BECOME PREOCCUPIED WITH PUMPING WATER FROM THE FLOATS & ALLOWED THE ACFT TO DRIFT DOWNWIND FROM A FISHING VESSEL. HE THEN ELECTED TO TAKEOFF INTO THE WIND WHICH WAS ALSO DIRECTLY TOWARD THE SUN.
