WHILE EN ROUTE, THE PLT TRIED TO CIRCUMNAVIGATE AN AREA OF BAD WX. HE WAS IN & OUT OF RAIN & FINALLY DECIDED TO REVERSE COURSE. HE SAID HE INADVERTENTLY FLEW INTO A THUNDERSTORM & LOST CONTROL OF THE ACFT DUE TO TURBULENCE. THE ACFT ENTERED A STEEP DIVE, & DURING THE PULL-OUT, THE LEFT DOOR CAME OFF.
