The pilot, sole on board, was performing a crop spraying flight when the engine lost power. He elected to make an emergency landing in a field 2 kilometers from Sofyevka, in the Stavropol krai. Upon touchdown, the aircraft rolled over and came to rest upside down, bursting into flames. The pilot escaped uninjured while the aircraft was partially destroyed by fire.
