Air Baltic marks 31st anniversary and 70 millionth passenger
The Latvian carrier celebrated its founding anniversary while noting it has carried 70 million passengers since 1995, even as it faces financial difficulties.
Air Baltic marked its 31st anniversary on Friday, August 28, and said it had carried its 70 millionth passenger since the airline's founding, according to the carrier.
The airline was established on August 28, 1995, as a joint venture between the Latvian state and Scandinavian Airlines. Its first commercial flight took off on October 1 of that year, a Saab SF 340 with 33 seats flying from Riga to Stockholm.
Despite the milestone, Air Baltic said it is currently going through a difficult period. The company needs recapitalisation, according to the airline, and is expected to significantly reduce the size of its fleet, which consists of Airbus A220 aircraft.
No further financial details were disclosed in connection with the anniversary announcement.
