Air Europa marks 40th anniversary, plans new Düsseldorf route

Air Europa marked its 40th anniversary with an event in Frankfurt that drew customers and partners from across Germany. The airline was founded in 1986 and operates from its hub at Madrid-Barajas, linking Europe with Latin America and other regions.

Germany has been and remains one of its most important markets, according to the airline. Air Europa has served Frankfurt and Munich since 2014. It said it will add Düsseldorf as a third German destination starting November 30.

The new Düsseldorf route will add 1,456 flights and more than 270,000 seats a year, the airline said. That will bring its total German offering to 4,380 flights and nearly 800,000 seats annually.

Over the course of 2026, Air Europa has already launched new connections to Oviedo, Seville, Geneva and Johannesburg, according to the company. It also plans to add El Salvador and Barranquilla, Colombia, by the end of the year, expanding its presence in Latin America further.

The airline is a member of the SkyTeam alliance. It currently operates a fleet of 59 aircraft, made up of Boeing 787 Dreamliners and Boeing 737s, and said new Airbus A350-900 aircraft will join the fleet soon. Air Europa serves more than 55 destinations worldwide.
