Air Borneo targets fleet of up to 17 aircraft by 2030
The Sarawak state carrier plans to grow to 14-15 jets for profitable operations, with a possible fleet of 17 by the end of 2030, according to its chief executive.
Air Borneo, Malaysia's Sarawak region's state-owned carrier, has laid out plans to grow its fleet substantially over the coming years. According to the New Straits Times, chief executive Megat Ardian Aminuddin said the airline sees a fleet of 14 to 15 aircraft as the size needed to turn a profit.
By the end of 2030, he said, the airline could be flying as many as 17 jets.
Air Borneo began jet operations in July 2026, launching routes from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. It initially operates Boeing 737-800 aircraft under wet-lease arrangements, with dry-leased aircraft expected to join the fleet from 2028 onward.
Earlier in 2026, the airline also took over regional routes in Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan previously flown by MASwings. The Sarawak government is funding the build-out as part of an approved business plan.
