Qantas reveals new lie-flat business suites for A321XLR and 787-9

Qantas has unveiled new business class seating for two parts of its fleet: the incoming Airbus A321XLR and the existing Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.

The centerpiece is a new suite for the A321XLR, arranged in a 1-1 herringbone layout. It's the first time a Qantas single-aisle aircraft will offer a fully lie-flat seat. Each suite converts into a bed and has a sliding door for privacy. There's also a 19-inch entertainment screen, wireless and USB-C charging, and Wi-Fi access, according to the airline.

Qantas said the A321XLR's extended range, up to 8,700 kilometers, will let it fly transcontinental routes to and from Perth as well as shorter international sectors. The carrier plans to bring in 16 of the jets fitted with the new suites. The first is due in 2028.

Separately, Qantas is updating the business suite on its 787-9 Dreamliners. Each aircraft will carry 42 suites. For the first time on a Qantas Dreamliner, these will include sliding privacy doors along with more sleeping space than the previous version.

The airline described the changes as part of a broader push into premium travel, tied to what it called the largest fleet renewal in its history. No pricing or specific route launch dates were given beyond the 2028 delivery target.
