American Airlines 737 blows two tires landing at Chicago O'Hare
An American Airlines Boeing 737-800 arriving from New York-LaGuardia blew two tires while landing at O'Hare, with no injuries reported.
An American Airlines flight suffered two blown tires while landing at Chicago O'Hare Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Flight 386, arriving from New York's LaGuardia Airport, reported the tire failures to air traffic control around 2 p.m. local time on Monday.
No injuries were reported among passengers or crew. Passengers deplaned using stairs and were bused to the terminal rather than using a jet bridge, suggesting the aircraft was unable to taxi normally after the incident.
The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, was withdrawn from service following the event. American Airlines issued a statement thanking its staff for their handling of the situation and apologizing to affected customers for the disruption to their travel.
The FAA said it is investigating the cause of the tire failures. Details on what led to the blowouts, including whether the issue stemmed from the landing itself or a pre-existing mechanical fault, have not yet been disclosed.
