Flight AA293, a Boeing 787-9 registered N837AN, departed Indira Gandhi International Airport at 11:15 PM local time on September 17. Its destination was John F. Kennedy International Airport, a non-stop sector of about 16 hours and 10 minutes.
Roughly six hours into the flight, cruising at 36,000 feet over Italian airspace, the crew reported a medical emergency to air traffic control and began altering course, according to FlightRadar24 data.
The aircraft descended first to 30,000 feet while the pilots considered diverting to Munich Airport in Germany. After further assessment, they climbed back to 36,000 feet and turned the Dreamliner northwest toward the United Kingdom.
AA293 landed on Runway 27L at Heathrow at 4:15 AM local time on September 18. Medical staff met the aircraft at the gate to assist the affected passenger.
The passenger's condition was not given, and it is not known when the flight continued.
