The Boeing 747 is the aircraft most often called a jumbo jet. It earned the name as the first widebody airliner, and it is still among the largest ever flown.

Other widebodies have picked up similar labels. Early tri-jet widebodies were called jumbo jets, and the Boeing 767 in its early years and the Boeing 777 more recently have been called mini-jumbos. The Airbus A380 is known as a superjumbo.

Boeing built the 747 for 55 years, a production run no rival jumbo matched.
