Boeing and American swap landing gear on a 737 Max for the first time
Boeing and American Airlines have carried out the first landing gear exchange on a 737 Max under a new programme. Overhauled nose and main gear were supplied, without wheels, tyres or brakes.
Boeing and American Airlines have swapped the landing gear on a 737 Max for the first time under the manufacturer's Landing Gear Exchange Program. Boeing provided overhauled and certified main and nose gear plus installation kits. Wheels, tyres and brakes were not included.
The programme aims to spare airlines long grounding periods during an overhaul, and the cost of keeping expensive spare landing gear on hand. Boeing already offers the scheme on other aircraft types and is now extending it to the 737 Max.
To support the expansion, more overhaul capacity, exchange landing gear and available slots at maintenance partners are to be created worldwide.
