Boeing braces for further 777X delays but keeps delivery plan
Boeing expects some 777X testing to slip into 2027 because of pending engine certification, while still planning first deliveries next year. The programme would then be seven years behind its original schedule.
Boeing chief executive Kelly Ortberg says the 777X faces further delays, with some testing possibly slipping into 2027. The reason is outstanding certification of the GE9X engine.
The manufacturer still plans to deliver the first 777X next year, which would put the programme seven years behind its original timeline.
On the GE9X, certain seals proved insufficiently durable. GE Aerospace says it has found the cause and shipped the first engines with improved seals in August.
Lufthansa is the launch customer and has waited years for the aircraft.
