Brazil tightens airline passenger information rules for flight disruptions
Brazil's civil aviation authority has approved new rules requiring airlines to inform passengers through digital channels as soon as a disruption is known, with expanded care obligations during delays and cancellations.

Brazil's civil aviation authority, Anac, has approved new rules on delays, cancellations and flight interruptions. Airlines must now tell passengers through digital channels as soon as they learn of a disruption, and the notice has to include the expected departure time, rebooking options and the assistance passengers are entitled to.
Care obligations are unchanged. After two hours of waiting, carriers must offer food; if an overnight stay is needed after four hours, they must also provide accommodation and transfer.
In exceptional cases, airlines may reimburse reasonable passenger expenses within seven days rather than providing the services directly. The changes take effect 30 days after publication in the official gazette.
