Breeze Airways cuts Daytona Beach flights by nearly 60%

Breeze Airways has cut its schedule at Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) sharply, according to schedule data reviewed for September. The carrier will operate 17 departing flights next month, down from 41 in September of last year, a drop of nearly 60%.

The route map is shrinking too. Breeze's network out of Daytona Beach will go from five destinations to two for the month, leaving only nonstop service to Raleigh-Durham International Airport and Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport in Providence.

The available data does not explain the reduction. It is not clear whether the cuts are seasonal or point to a broader change in Breeze's approach to the airport.

Breeze Airways is a relatively young low-cost carrier that has built its network around smaller and mid-sized airports across the United States, often on routes with limited existing nonstop competition. Daytona Beach was one of several such markets where the airline expanded service after entering.

The size of the cut at DAB stands out given the airport's earlier status as a five-destination market for the carrier. Whether Breeze restores the dropped routes, or trims service further, is not yet known.
