Lufthansa's Discover to launch first UK routes in 2027

Discover, the leisure airline owned by Lufthansa, plans to fly to the United Kingdom for the first time, with new routes launching in summer 2027. The carrier has no UK destinations at present. Its closest connection is Shannon, in Ireland.

According to the airline, the first route will run from Frankfurt to Glasgow, starting March 29, 2027, with up to six flights weekly. A second Glasgow route, from Munich, follows on May 16, with up to two weekly flights.

Bristol will get twice-weekly service from Frankfurt beginning May 17. Inverness will receive a weekly Frankfurt connection starting June 19. All four routes will use Airbus A320 aircraft.

Marco Götz, Discover's chief commercial officer, said in a statement that the new destinations reflect a shift in traveler interest toward nature, outdoor activity and cultural experiences. He said the routes would make it easier for passengers to reach Scotland and England through the carrier's Frankfurt and Munich hubs.

Discover's existing network centers mainly on warm-weather destinations across Southern Europe, North Africa and East Africa, along with routes to North America, the Caribbean, the Maldives, Scandinavia and Iceland. In the United States, the airline serves cities including Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Las Vegas, Orlando and Tampa.

The move into the UK marks a new direction for the carrier, which has traditionally focused on holiday routes rather than short-haul European destinations closer to its German base.
