Bye Aerospace eFlyer 2 completes first flight

Bye Aerospace flew its eFlyer 2 for the first time, an all-electric aircraft aimed at the flight training market. The September 24, 2026 flight left Centennial Airport near Denver, Colorado, with Chief Test Pilot Elliot Seguin at the controls, according to the company.

The sortie looked at handling qualities, aerodynamic characteristics and system performance. Data gathered will inform the next stage of flight testing, Bye Aerospace said. Seguin said the aircraft handled well and that the flight validated years of design and test work by the engineering team.

Bye Aerospace described the eFlyer 2 as a safety-focused design that pairs an advanced electric propulsion system with a lightweight composite airframe. A company statement said the aircraft can cut operating costs by as much as 80% and produce no in-flight emissions.

The flight opens the aircraft's test program, a step toward Federal Aviation Administration certification and eventual deliveries to customers. CEO Rod Zastrow said the flight met expectations in aerodynamics, handling, propulsion and overall performance. No maintenance problems were reported during the sortie. He called the program an important step in showing that electric aircraft can offer lower operating costs while retaining the performance, safety and handling qualities needed for training environments.

Several manufacturers are pursuing electric-powered designs for flight schools, a segment where the eFlyer 2's first flight is the latest development.
