Cabin crew group criticises delay to EU-Qatar aviation deal review

The European Cabin Crew Association objects to the European Commission's plan to postpone its review of the EU's air transport agreement with Qatar until the end of 2029, and wants the deal's provisional application halted now.

The European Cabin Crew Association (EurECCA), which represents cabin crew trade unions across Europe, has criticised the European Commission's decision to delay its review of the air transport agreement with Qatar until the end of 2029.

EurECCA wants the agreement's provisional application stopped immediately and a written review delivered before the end of this year.

The association said the Commission told it the review requested by the European Parliament would be carried out by the end of 2029, with a decision on further steps afterwards. That timing, according to EurECCA, means the review could only be completed after the current terms of both the European Parliament and the Commission have ended.

EurECCA's concerns cover labour and social standards, competition, transparency and flight safety. The European Parliament had also sought a review, and possibly a suspension, of the agreement over corruption allegations linked to the negotiations.
