EASA recognises FAA approvals for lead-free avgas Swift 100R

Europe's aviation safety regulator has accepted expanded U.S. approvals for a lead-free aviation gasoline, widening the number of general aviation aircraft in Europe that can use it. The fuel is designed as a replacement for leaded Avgas 100LL.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has recognised the expanded approvals granted by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration for Swift 100R, a lead-free aviation gasoline. The fuel was developed as a substitute for leaded Avgas 100LL and can now be used in a considerably larger number of general aviation aircraft in Europe.

The FAA had widened the supplemental type certificates to cover more than 1600 aircraft models and 1200 engine types, according to Swift Fuel, which is based in Saarbrücken. The company says that amounts to roughly 70 percent of the aircraft types approved by the FAA.

The clearances now also apply to the corresponding aircraft and engines holding EASA approval.
