EU closes antitrust probe into Pratt & Whitney Canada engine parts clauses

The European Commission has closed its antitrust investigation into Pratt & Whitney Canada after the engine maker revised contract clauses regulators said could have limited competition from independent suppliers of used engine parts. The probe, opened in August, focused on provisions that might have restricted access to used engines and certification services. Pratt & Whitney Canada removed the contested terms and clarified in its contracts that affiliated maintenance shops are allowed to source used spare parts from other providers. After reviewing the changes, the Commission said its concerns had been addressed. The International Air Transport Association welcomed the amendments, noting they lift restrictions on maintenance operators within the company's network.
