FAA moves to widen fuel hose inspections on certain Airbus A220s
The FAA plans to broaden required checks of fuel lines on some Airbus A220s, citing hose damage and a possible fire risk. The directive would add four aircraft to a 2021 rule, covering 13 in the US.
The US Federal Aviation Administration plans to expand mandatory fuel line inspections on some Airbus A220 aircraft, the regulator said. The A220-100 and A220-300 are covered.
The FAA ties the checks to a production change in which the related assembly instruction was not updated. Flexible fuel hoses may therefore have been installed twisted, the agency says. Lines installed that way can rub against their protective sheathing and be damaged.
Escaping fuel could ignite at nearby electrical connections, according to the FAA.
The planned airworthiness directive adds four aircraft to a measure issued in 2021, bringing the total affected in the United States to 13 A220s. No grounding is planned. Operators are to carry out visual inspections and replace damaged parts where necessary.
