Fly Safair is suing SAA Technical, the maintenance arm of South African Airways, for about 21.1 million rand (1.1 million euros) over a collision at Johannesburg airport.

According to the claim, a worker at SAA Technical failed to brake in time during a towing movement. An Airbus A320 under tow got out of control and struck a parked Boeing 737-800 belonging to Fly Safair.

The incident happened on 11 November 2022, but the lawsuit was filed on 2 September at the High Court in Johannesburg. The damaged Boeing needed repairs and was unavailable for scheduled flights in December 2022. Fly Safair puts the lost profit from that grounding at 21.1 million rand.
