FLY91 places record order for 40 ATR 72-600 aircraft

Indian regional airline FLY91 has ordered 40 ATR 72-600 turboprops valued at about $1 billion, the largest order ever from a purely regional carrier.

ATR 42/72

Indian regional airline FLY91 said on Thursday it will buy 40 ATR 72-600 aircraft. The deal is worth about $1 billion. It is the largest firm order for ATR in almost a decade and the biggest order ever placed by a purely regional airline.

Deliveries run from 2027 to 2032. ATR's 2026 order backlog now stands at 54 aircraft, more than its total net orders for all of 2025, and the year still has more than three months to go.

FLY91 began operations less than three years ago. It plans to expand its fleet from six aircraft to 60 within the next five years. The airline said the growth reflects confidence in the Indian market and ATR's focus on regional aviation.

The airline said the ATR 72-600 suits short regional routes where low fares and fuel efficiency are critical. The aircraft will connect smaller cities and support affordable air travel for millions of passengers.
